#10 My Top Ten Modern Day Crooners: No 8…Buddy Greco
Buddy is a living legend , he joined the Benny Goodman orchestra at the age of 16 for four years, he played piano, arranging and singing. As a solo artist he recorded great hits such as “Up Up and Away” “Around The World” and his most successful single “The Lady Is a Tramp” which sold over one million copies, and recorded over sixty albums.
How would you like to add this to your CV, he conducted the London Symphony Orchestra, performed for Queen Elizabeth II and with the Beatles.
I think because, he is so talented, he has diversified a lot in his musical career and is not known so much these days as the crooner he undoubtedly was. As I write this blog I reckon that he is now 90.
In my experience musicians have a lot of respect for someone like Buddy Greco, because we are all influenced by those who come before us, and I’m very pleased to give him a mention in my list of top ten modern day crooners.
