#12 My Top Ten Modern Day Crooners: No 10…Ken Ard

Ken Ard is totally what I love about Jazz/crooner vocalists, and it seems as if he was destined to be what he is. Dancer, choreographer, actor and singer. You will have to do some searching to find him, but I suggest that You Tube should be your first stop. He may not be as famous as the other  nine in my list, but I don’t think you will be disappointed.

He grew up in a home visited by jazz greats, Joe Williams was a personal friend of his father, and bassist Paul Chambers his uncle, Carmen McRae close friend of his aunt, and Ard would assist Nina Simone with her performances when she would appear in Oakland.

The beginning of 2009 marked the release of “Ballads, Blues & Cocktails”, Ken’s first jazz CD, and he has performed in the 2009/2010 season of Holland’s renowned Jazz Impuls Theater concert series with the Goodman/Hampton sextet 4BEAT6. (You can find this on You Tube or snip its of it).

So there you have it my top ten crooners, I’ve enjoyed this immensely, so much so I think I might do another but a different genre.
