Tony Bennett must go down as one of the all time American greats, he’s done it all and is still working at the age of ninety and showing no signs of slowing down, I Got a newsletter this week with his latest tour date’s. He has recorded and performed pop songs, to the big band’s and show tunes to jazz standards.
Tony is also the founder of the Frank Sinatra School of Arts, in Astoria, Queens, New York. Some could argue that he should be at number one, I have two reasons for putting him in 3rd spot 1..He’s not a songwriter, 2…I think he is more of a jazz singer than a crooner, but he was probably classed as a crooner in his earlier days, if you compare his signature song “I Left My Heart in Sanfrancisco” to the way he sings now you will notice a big difference in his style, and was named an NEA Jazz Master. His first hit song was “Because of You”.
He has sold over 50 million records worldwide and like Sinatra recorded with Count Basie.
