The song that brought Rick to the Limelight was “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Stock Aitkin and Waterman, 1987. By the time of his retirement in 1993, Astley had sold approximately 40 million records worldwide.
Coming right forward to April 2016 Rick released, “Keep Singing” from his album titled 50, because he had just turned that age, Adele did this first though, if we all start doing it there is going to be a lot of confusion and there’s enough of that going about. The album reached number one on the Official UK Album Sales charts in the week of 17 June 2016 to 23 June 2016. Some very good songs on this album, which put’s Rick at my number 6.
I love this quote from Angus Harrison in The Guardian From Bieber to Rick Astley: in 2016 there’s no room for snobbery in music. We live in an age where all tunes are created equal. It’s time music criticism shed its superiority complex.
